My Son's Senior Voice Recital
Last Friday night was a really special night for our family. Our oldest son, David, gave his college senior voice recital. David is a baritone and a very fine singer. He planned an ambitious program and pulled it off wonderfully. David sang songs by Schubert, Ravel, Mahler, and Vaughan Williams. Some of his college friends assisted him in pieces by Handel and Samuel Barber. One of the most exciting parts of the evening for me was having David's friend and opera director come to sing a duet with him. David had met this amazing singer last fall when he sang in I Pagliacci with Opera Lancaster. John Darrenkamp performed with the Metropolitan Opera for 22 seasons and the New York City opera for 7 seasons. He sang professionally for 38 years. At the recital, David and John sang Suoni la tromba (I Puritani) by Bellini. Since I am my son's accompanist, I had the honor of accompanying this incredibly talented and gracious man, as well as my dear son. It was a night I will never forget!

As an attendee of the recital, I must say both the singer and collaborative piano player, were exceptional! Congratulations to you both on your respective accomplishments!
David's voice recital was wonderful.He has such an incredible gift,and his ability to convey emotion through his singing enabled me to thoroughly enjoy the pieces.It moved my spirit to laughter and to tears..What a blessing for you to share in such an evening with your firstborn. I could see the love and pride in your heart.There is no greater feeling than sharing such a precious moment with your child. Thank you for all the inspiration you have given to Tyler.Your piano accompaniment was absolutely amazing....Now he'll really think your Mozart. :) Your beautiful playing touched our souls.It was a wonderful evening of music. What a fabulous recital by two wonderful entertainers and true musicians! David never ceases to amaze me with his depth of understanding of a piece which brings it to life and draws the audience in. He has such a gift to convey meaning as well as involve his listeners through his expression both physically and musically. I will miss the blessing and privilege to hear him so often as he moves on to the bigger and better! Kathy, you played so beautifully and with so much heart on Friday. Your interpretations mirrored David's and together, you produce an amazing recital. Pride and joy just beamed from your face and I am so happy you had this opportunity with David. God has given you both incredible talent and may He bless you abundantly as you continue to bless others with the sharing of your gifts! Love to you both.

Congratulations to David and Kathy both for a superlative and enjoyable performance and to Jack for an elegant and delightful reception! David is blessed to have such talented parents assist him, and we were blessed to be invited to share in your joy! You are all incredible. Congratulations on a wonderful recital! Wasn't it just yesterday that David was singing Jesus Loves Me standing up on a piano bench so the nursing home residents could see him?
He has grown up to be such a fine young man! Thanks for inviting us to the recital - we wouldn't have missed it for the world!

So true!! I enjoy watching his facial expressions and body language so much.
